AppDoctor

How the keyword metrics work

What popularity, difficulty and rank mean in AppDoctor, and where each number comes from.

Popularity

How often people search for a phrase, from Apple: a score from 0 to 100, where higher means more searches. It comes from your connected Apple Ads account (see Connect Apple Ads). Without one, the column stays empty rather than showing a guess.

Difficulty

How hard it is to reach the top 10 for a search, from 0 (easy) to 100 (very hard). AppDoctor looks at the apps currently in the top 10 for that search in that country and weighs:

  • how many ratings they have, and their average rating
  • how many of them use the phrase in their name or subtitle

A popular search with low difficulty is the best kind to target.

Rank

Where your app appears in the App Store's results for that search, in that country, the last time AppDoctor checked. Apps beyond the first 200 results show as unranked. The arrow shows the change since the previous check.

Ranks are searched from your computer, the way a person would search, so results reflect what people in that country see.
